Hi all,

I received a phone call the day before yesterday from DWP to say i am entitled to ESA (following my assessment two weeks ago) and am in the support group category.

I am very relieved about this, to say the least, it is a huge weight off my mind. I had convinced myself i was going to have to appeal the decision. I have just looked at my old posts about this and it has taken three months from start to finish and has been very stressful.

Thank you all for your help and support, which has been much appreciated, especially Rich for all your help.

it is not me but yourself that got you to this stage :)
To get into the support group means that you are severely affected . You are regarded as being in the most vulnerable group .. Jamie would be very interested in your experience of the process if you are willing to tell your srory .

I know you don't want to "rock the boat" but i would also ask for a copy of your ESA 85 (medical report), as is your right , as this might prove valuable in the future years .You can get this by sending a letter to JCP on the address on the decision letter (when you get it )

Still not heard anything re medical, its getting on for 5 weeks now. But today had letter from derby jobcentre saying they need more info documents regarding my occupational pension and small private pension the form they sent me was IBM 164 Rang them up and enquired re medical he said "there are no notes on system" and form "is all to do with your transfer over" whatever that means I cant work out whats going on, anyway sent them all details of pensions and let you know if I hear anything else, of course they had all this info when I applied for IB Luv Glenxx

Aww Glenice ,

Sorry to hear that it is turning into a trawl for you.
Firstly occupational Pensions and Private Pensions can affect the amount of both Incapacity Benefit and ESA (Contribution based). They ignore the first £85 pw of them and reduce your amount by half the difference. eg if you receive £90 total in pensions then they will reduce payment by £2.50.

With regard the IBM 164 , i cannot find reference to it anywhere.. what questions did it ask, and i am presuming the IBM stands for Incapacity Benefit Migration.( was it to do with your pensions?)
Just supply all information requested , including additional medical evidence .
Pensions can change over time , so perhaps that is why they are asking .If they were under £85 they may have been disregarded totally and no amount put "on the system".

Unfortunately not a lot you can do in the meantime except wait on a decision, and get help if anything does not go smoothly.Keep copies of everything .

thank you jean and rich IBM one six four form said "we need more infomation in order to assess eligibility to ESA
this was followed by four tick box areas one area was ticked and beside it said we need current documents regarding your NHS and legal and general pensions below it said we need this info by twenty second of september or your benefit may be affected>
sorry i have to spell out numbers as computer is ailing and me being a technophobic is not heping
i first received letter telling me i was to be assessed for ESA was sent on twenty second june so it will soon be three months since start and it is fairly banjaxing me sorry about spelling eyesight not too good
I am on higher rate DLA so expect i may have to go through it all again when they change to pip at the moment i dont know how i would cope with another assesment
it is completely exhausting you dont sleep well worrying it takes up your thoughts throughout the day however hard you try not to think about it thank you for being there glenxx
